It was Pi Day on March 15, 2026, so the Freshmen Student Government organized a fundraiser for the Class of 2029. Officers Aaron (Treasurer), Ellora (President), Saira (Secretary), and Juliette (Vice President) recruited teacher and student volunteers to take pies to the face for $4 a piece. Within minutes of the first lunch starting, a crowd gathered on the South Highland side of campus to watch their friends and teachers get showered with whipped cream.
Participants wore ponchos and goggles to protect themselves, but the rest of their faces were fair game. As the first few pies were thrown, chaos rose. Students were screaming, and a spray of whipped cream flew everywhere. In just the first lunch, Nystrom, Kivitz, Ben (the freshman), and more took to their chairs. Pies were thrown one after another, and it looked like a very successful fundraiser for the freshman student government.
As things slowed down and teachers were cleaning up, a tired, whipped-cream-covered Mr. Schwind, a.k.a Schwindy, was wiping off the remnants when poncho-less and unsuspecting, he had one last pie launched at him by an unknown student, now covered in even more pie, this was a very unexpected (by that I mean expected) ending to the first lunch’s go at pieing teachers.
When the first teacher, Mr. Nystrom, was hit with a pie, he was asked about his experience. He said, “It was sweet, baby!” A lot of the pieing was student on student. Apparently, some lingering beef was channelled in a flow of whipped cream.
Although Ms. McFarlane volunteered, she didn’t end up getting pied, and the reason why is something she’s been waiting to get off her chest. When a freshman officer apologetically took her off the schedule due to her dairy allergy, Ms. McFarlane was so overjoyed that she didn’t correct her. She later said, “I’d rather jump in the shaming hole” that reporter Ashton Hadley designed, but she was happy to see so many willing participants in her place.
In the end, Pi Day was a success with over 50 tickets sold. Their fundraising efforts aren’t over, so be on the lookout for other events this season.
