As some of you may know, I recently released an article about animal science student’s favorite animals. This edition is a preview of brief interviews about the staffs favorite animal.
Hanna
Hanna’s favorite animal in the lab is Graham, a small rosy boa snake who is a fan favorite in the lab. He is known for his cuddly, sweet personality and his adorable curiosity. Hanna said they like his little black tongue and that “His head is so smol.” Graham was born in 1996 and has been at ACC’s animal science lab since around that time. This means that Graham has been at ACC for 20 years before the Arlington Tech program was even added in 2016. This year, he will be turning a whopping 30 years old, and all of the animal science students will be there to celebrate with him (even though he won’t know what’s going on…I think.)

Lilo
Lilo’s favorite animals in the lab are Jazz and Amber, two sister tabby cats that were adopted from AWLA a while back. Lilo likes them because they are patient with students while also teaching them boundaries and when to leave them alone. They are a great way for students to learn through demonstration and real-life practice. Lilo also likes that they catch the wild mice in the lab, especially Jazz, even though she doesn’t let them go.

Erin
Erin has a special place in her heart for Oreo, our old lady guinea pig, who is super cuddly and sweet. Oreo is a solo piggie who will be turning ten very soon, an astounding age for a guinea pig. She is very social and immediately squeals when anyone approaches her cage. Erin says she has “given her so many baths she has won me over.” Erin says she gives definite princess vibes and loves to be pampered. I think everyone in the lab can agree that Oreo is a sweetheart.

Mr. Re
Mr. Re was very passionate about his answer, saying, “Shiloh, of course! She’s my sassy diva!” He says he has never met a reptile with “attitude” until he met Shiloh. She is a red-eared slider, which is native to North America, and is found in still bodies of fresh water. We got Shiloh a few months ago, and she has been an amazing addition to our lab. Not only is she beautiful, but she also has tons of personality and flair. She is bossy and independent, as Mr. Re says, and is a fan favorite among lab goers.
