Ever since Shai won his second MVP, it feels like the only thing that has been put on his name is disrespect. He’s a back to back MVP well on his way to being an all-time great yet all people want to talk about is free throws. Let’s get one thing straight: SGA is a good player and a deserving MVP. He has the best handles, the best midrange game, one of the best passing games, he’s an elite perimeter defender, and as clutch as they get. Hell, he demanded a triple team half of the time for the entire western conference finals just to keep him averaging only 20 points per game. And let’s address the whole free throw situation because he doesn’t even average the most free throw attempts per game. In fact he’s only fourth on that list behind Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Deni Avdija.
So lets stop talking about SGA like he’s the first person in NBA history to shoot through contact. It’s ridiculous. Why is Wembanyama the “deserving MVP” not called a flopper? Throughout the Western Conference Finals Wemby averaged only one less free throw attempt per game with 9.2 per game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is what the NBA needs. He’s a new superstar face of the league and he’s here to stay. This whole mob mentality against him and the OKC Thunder is just corny media narrative slop at this point. Why did the entire media and NBA discourse just decide to hate this young and exciting team from a young franchise that just last year captured their first title? The fact that in a 2-year span, a young player has one two MVPs, a Western Conference Finals MVP, a NBA Finals MVP, and a Championship, and everyone already just wants to hate him is sad. It’s honestly pathetic that this league’s fanbase can’t stand someone who wins and until that changes the NBA will never find its new face of the league. Every time there’s a suitable candidate, fans just want to find a reason to hate them.
