Much of The Chronicle’s audience, and hopefully the broader ACC community, is familiar with Archers’ TV because of its weekly productions and student focus. However, what goes into the show may surprise you. Recently, I spoke with Caroline Schwebach, ACC’s most-senior TV Production student and the student producer of Archers’ TV, to gain some insight.
History
Archers TV is new to ACC this year, but the beginnings of its existence go back to the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Ms. Chung was hoping to start a program to showcase ACC events and daily happenings within classes, so Mr. Oday and Mr. Woodhead stepped in and floated the idea of a show. The main goal was to feature accomplishments within our school as well as showing off the talent and skill of the students. With these ideas in mind, it seemed natural for this program to be student run. While Mr. Oday and Mr.Woodhead give the final “go ahead” for each show, all the shooting, editing, and production can be accredited to ACC’s TV Production classes, and all but a few of the participants are in their first year of the class (there are three total levels.)
Production
The show comes out on Friday mornings, but the process to make each episode starts about a week prior. Caroline explained that the beginning of each week is spent writing and creating a story, and then they move to shooting and final edits. There are several aspects of each episode: packages, the Learning by Doing segment, and the live anchors. One thing that might surprise you about the production process of the show is that it’s all done in one take. You heard that right, each episode is shot as if it were a live production, all the graphics and cuts are in real time. Caroline says that they use this technique to eliminate the need for post-production editing, which would drag out the process. Overall, the production process is very quick and efficient, with only four days to write and one day to shoot. Every student involved in the release of each show is extremely dedicated, and puts so much time and effort into it. Stay tuned for this week’s episode of Archers’ TV and all that’s to come in the future!
