From the corner of S Glebe Rd & 7 St S is a busy intersection that houses a bus stop. This bus stop is visited by 4 different buses, 3 Metrobusses, and 1 ART.
For students, this small corner can be the start of an adventure. The start of a fun outing with friends to relieve stress after a long day at school. Today, our journey follows the path of ART Bus 41, as it travels along Glebe Rd.
S Glebe Rd & Old Glebe Rd is a stop right in front of Dominion Apartments. While I doubt that any students will be paying a visit there, they might take interest in its neighboring restaurant: Ruthie’s All Day, a Mid-Atlantic restaurant that has become one of Arlington’s highest rated restaurants. Looking around, you can see many people filling up the seats, mingling outside the door, cars turning into the parking lot. Online too, numerous 5 star reviews all raving about the service, atmosphere and the food.
Maybe food isn’t your thing, spending money at a restaurant not your style. Then hop back on the bus and continue to S Glebe Rd & Arlington Blvd. Right across the street you will be met with a distinct blue logo. The Goodwill of Greater Washington Retail Store is exactly what it sounds like. A thrift store where you can buy secondhand clothing, dishes, furniture, accessories, and much more, all for a much smaller price. Sounds perfect for a group of low-budget, possibly broke high school students, and if you want to help out fellow students and your community, right behind the store is a place where you can drop off donations.
At N Glebe Rd & Pershing Dr is a place full of different stores and experiences. Was shopping at Goodwill not enough? Then cross the street to CVS Pharmacy, maybe something there will catch your attention. Cross the street again and you’ll find yourself in front of Glebe Market, a small South & Central American grocery store always stocked up and with great prices. Crossing the street for a third time, the aroma of kabobs will reach you. This delicious smell belongs to Ravi Kabob House, a Pakistani restaurant that serves up kabobs and other local dishes. The store is often busy, people filling up the small place, so takeout is definitely recommended. However, the authentic taste and friendly staff certainly makes up for the crowded restaurant.
N Glebe Rd & N Quincy St marks the end of 41’s journey along Glebe Road. However, the last stop is housing a bunch of different places. Harris Teeter, or if you have more of a sweet tooth, Harris Teeter Bakery, right across the street from the bus stop. Glebe & Randolph Park, a quiet small clearing that lets you enjoy your snack in peace. Of course you might be more interested in the looming building called Ballston Quarter. So do as all teenagers do and take a short walk to visit the shopping mall. If nothing had sparked your interest before, something here surely will. They have a food court, all sorts of different stores, a movie theater, games, and of course an ice rink. The Medstar Capitals Iceplex is open to the public, offering rental skates and a bunch of fun. If ice skating is something that interests you then sign up for their lessons.
All of the stops visited along Glebe Road can be enjoyed with company or alone, if you’re a solo traveler. So if you have a free afternoon, hop on 41 and go on a local adventure.
