The ACC Book Nook spreads the good word about new, popular books. Our first issue focuses on three titles on the New York Times bestseller list. Stay tuned for more reading ideas in the near future.

This month’s fiction books are Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us and It Starts With Us. The two are currently on the bestselling monthly November list at spaces 3 and 1 respectively. It Ends With Us is based on Hoover’s parents and follows a young woman named Lily, who meets a young man named Ryle. She immediately falls for him— and then her first love comes into the picture, and everything she thought she had is on the verge of disappearing. It Starts With Us is the sequel to It Ends With Us and describes Lily’s relationship with her first love, Atlas, before the first book started, as well as exploring the two after the first book ended.

“Maybe the idea of love ending being a negative thing is simply a matter of perspective.” It Starts With Us

A note: Warnings for It Starts With Us and It Ends With Us include abuse, gun violence, mentions of depression, and rape. Warnings for Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing include addiction to drugs/alcohol, hospitalization, and divorced parents. Please take care of yourselves and keep these triggers in mind.

“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.” It Ends With Us

As for this month’s nonfiction book, the highest on the New York Times Bestselling is Matthew Perry’s autobiography, known for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. The book is new to the list and instantly took the top spot. Perry tells the story of his life from his childhood, through being a teenager, all the way through his acting career and adulthood.

“Now, all these years later, I’m certain that I got famous so I would not waste my entire life trying to get famous. You have to get famous to know that it’s not the answer. And nobody who is not famous will ever truly believe that.”
