Taylor Swift’s 12th album is finally here, and it is more than anyone could have imagined. Released on October 3, 2025, The Life of a Showgirl is filled with back-to-back bangers. This album was inspired during her time in the Eras Tour, which is a given once you hear all the new flashy vocals and melodies. Recently, Taylor has been on a writing streak, dropping 4 albums in the past 3 years. Typically artists only drop 1, maybe 2 albums in that time frame.
Taylor Swift is known for leaving easter eggs everywhere she goes. In an interview about her album she said that there were only going to be 12 tracks on The Life of a Showgirl, but swifties aren’t too quick to believe that statement. In the corner of the screen you could see a ponecio figurine, possibly hinting at some new releases.
You all know this wouldn’t be a review of Taylor Swift if we didn’t cover the records she’s been breaking. For starters, she’s broken her own vinyl sales record. She previously held the title of most vinyls sold in the first week sales for her album The Tortured Poets Department, but has beaten that number by almost 500,000 more sales for The Life of a Showgirl. Additionally, she has surpassed her own song “Fortnight” as the most-streamed song in 24 hours on Spotify with her new pop hit: “The Fate of Ophelia.”
The life of a Showgirl has a pop-y base with some of the songs having a darker undertone, similar to her Reputation album. Overall, fans are glued to the witty lyrics, and the catchy and addictive rhymes. Now, let’s do a deep dive into some of Arlington Tech’s favorites so far.
A top favorite from the album is “Opalite.” While this isn’t the top Spotify song of the album, many fans are being pulled to this song for its dance party qualities and pop-y melody. In quite the opposite direction, “Ruin The Friendship” is also getting a lot of likes around the Career Center. Students said they liked it because it sounds a lot like the Tortured Poets Department, and the sad message paired with an upbeat tune makes for a powerful track. The last song in the Arlington Tech fan favorites is “Actually Romantic!” This quippy diss track is simply irresistible. Going all out with lyrics, composure,e and everything a great song needs to hit just right.
The overall response from fans was varied, with many Swifties being obsessed since the first listen and others finding it surface-level and out of her depth. In all, this album seems to be a positive new addition to her discography, and something Swifties will gladly bop their heads to any time of the day.
