What is Hollow Knight?

On February 24, 2017, small indie developers Team Cherry released a metroidvania, a game that combines exploration with exciting combat and platforming, called Hollow Knight. It became a sensation overnight and eventually ended up selling around 15 million copies. The game’s main character is a small bug who is never directly named but who the fanbase has dubbed as Ghost. The main goal of the game is to save a fallen kingdom from a sickness that destroyed it long ago. In one of the earliest zones known as Greenpath, the player encounters a character called Hornet. Hornet ends up becoming a key character in saving the fallen kingdom and was much beloved by thefandom for her iconic voice lines, “Shah!”
What is Silksong?
On February 14, 2019, almost exactly two years after the first release of Hollow Knight, Team Cherry announced in a trailer that they would be releasing the sequel to Hollow Knight called Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The game would focus on Hornet’s journey in an entirely new kingdom, occurring after the events of the first game. Hype was at an all time high, and it became even higher after a demo of the game became available to players on August 20, 2019 at E3, a videogame conference. Fans were counting down the days until release, but the days kept adding up. The people were ready, but the game was not. As the years dragged on, the game turned into an online meme with people joking about Silksong fans rotting in graves before the game was gonna be released. However, on August 21, 2025, after seven years of waiting, the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong was finally announced, that day being September 4, 2025. It is now available for console, Windows, and Mac. In the first half-hour of its release, it sold 100,000 copies and has an overwhelmingly positive rating on steam with over 17,000 reviews, so quit waiting and go play Silksong!
