25 with ’25 is a Chronicle series where we ask 25 questions to a member of the class of ’25. Between now and May, we’ll shine a spotlight on each member of this year’s graduating class. Our goal is to feature all seniors from all ACC programs. Get started by completing this Google form, and reach out to Ilana Hoffer or Clara Golner with any questions.
- How does it feel to be a senior in high school?
- It is so exciting to be a senior! I will be sad to leave my teachers and my friends who aren’t attending UVA, but I am very happy to begin that new chapter of my life soon!
- What was your favorite moment at ACC?
- My favorite moment at ACC was tech-tastic. Every year, I have enjoyed the can-struction project. It is fun to come up with something new and exciting to build, work with your classmates to build it out of cans, and see the final product where your idea comes to life.
- What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
- The best advice I’ve received is to “do whatever makes you happy” – my grandma. It is important to make sure what you are doing makes you happy, whether it’s an everyday activity like holding the door for others or getting your lifelong job in something you love, you have to make sure to fill your life with happiness as best you can.
- What advice would you give to underclassmen?
- Be kind to yourself and everyone you meet because you never know what people are going through. Also, take every opportunity to learn something new and expand your skill set, but do not exhaust yourself. You have to find the right balance, which can be hard because there isn’t unlimited time in the day, but I believe in all of you!
- Who supported you the most through high school?
- My family and friends. I give a special shoutout to my mom and dad because on days when life was hard, they have always been there for me and shown me love.
- What is/was your favorite core class you’ve taken and why?
- Math is my favorite subject, and I’ve had many amazing classes in it with great friends and teachers, but surprisingly, I really enjoyed English from my junior year. Mr. Stephens was a funny teacher who made class enjoyable and taught me a lot. I was always very proud of my final papers, and always passionate about what I was writing. I also got to make a podcast and write a paper with Caroline, and although I’m sure she was probably driven crazy because of how long it took me to write it, it was so much fun to collaborate on, and it turned out amazing in the end.
- What is/was your favorite elective and why?
- My favorite elective is statistics because I love seeing how math and numbers can relate to real life. We did a project where we got to choose a dataset and write code to see if there were significant relationships between variables. It was so interesting to see how our research questions could be looked at through the lens of statistics and to develop ideas for future research.
- What grade did you enjoy the most and why?
- I enjoyed junior year the most. I had lots of fun classes, and it was great for my athletics!
- What do you plan on doing next year?
- I am going to UVA to play soccer and I plan on majoring in statistics!
- What field are you planning on going into?
- Statistics
- What is a personal goal you have for life after high school?
- A personal goal is to become an impactful player on the UVA women’s soccer team and help them win a National Championship. I would also like to try to spread kindness to as many people as possible. After college, I would like to either become a professional soccer player or be a statistician for a sports team, gathering data on players and their performances.
- What is something you can’t live without?
- I can’t live without my family and friends, soccer, music/ dancing for fun, and the beach.
- What is your favorite project you’ve done?
- My favorite project I’ve done was the mini golf hole design project from my freshman year geometry class. I remember my group made a loop-de-loop and painted a really cool design on it.
- Where’s your favorite place to hang out outside of school?
- I enjoy hanging out in my car, whether driving around to random places with my friends blasting music, or just parked and having deep conversations, my car can fit any vibe.
- If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
- I would go to the Maldives huts over the water because it looks so beautiful there, and I love the ocean.
- What’s your favorite extracurricular activity?
- My favorite extracurricular activity is playing sports, specifically soccer. However, it’s also fun to play other ones that I grew up playing, or try new ones. Other extracurriculars I enjoy include going to the gym, crocheting, DJing, and reading.
- Who’s your favorite musical artist?
- I can not choose a favorite, so I will give a top five: Coldplay, Tate McRae, Pitbull, Infern0 (my brother), and g3ox_em (iykyk)
- What’s a song that you have on repeat?
- When I want summer vibes: The difference (Flume, Toro y Mio). When I’m reading: Resonance (Home). When I have to lock in on homework: GigaChad Theme -Phonk House Version (g3ox_em)
- What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
- Again, I can not choose one, so I will give a top three: The Pink Panther with Steve Martin, Cars 2, and The Sound of Music.
- What’s your favorite meal?
- My moms homemade meatloaf.
- Are you more of a morning person, night owl, or mid-day energizer?
- morning person
- What time do you go to bed on school nights?
- It depends on when my soccer practice ends but I try to go to bed by 11 latest.
- What motivates you?
- My sister motivates me. She was always an overachiever and still is at her job today. She inspires me to push myself academically and athletically. She is my biggest supporter, and I do not know where I would be without her.
- What’s an academic challenge you faced and how did you overcome it?
- My learning differences presented an academic challenge. The learning differences that I have make tasks take double the amount of time it might take for a normal student to complete. This is obviously hard to overcome because I can’t exactly change the way I was born, but I can reach out to friends and teachers for help, advocate for myself, and try to efficiently manage my time. Using those strategies helped me moderate how much my learning differences affect me and made them less of an academic challenge.
- What’s your greatest achievement so far?
- My greatest achievement so far has been committing to play women’s soccer at the University of Virginia. Some other achievements have been winning a state championship in lacrosse freshman year, winning a national championship in lacrosse summer going into sophomore year, getting the new school record for Yorktown track in the 400m individual race and for the 4×800 relay team, and getting 5th at states for the 400m.
