On the 12th of February, I visited the electricity department to look at what was going on in class. Everyone was writing down in their textbooks and filling out a packet about circuits. The room was loud with the sounds as I heard people using the saws and tools. From what I heard, they’re doing an important assignment for their class.
I asked some students the following question: why did you choose to take electricity? One person responded with the following: “I chose electricity because I wanted to learn the basics of electricity, and want to learn more about it.” I didn’t get to talk to Mr. Ellison, but I learned from reading in a Teacher Feature article that Mr. Ellison’s favorite part of teaching electricity is saving time for his students. If they don’t like his class, he keeps his students from working a job they don’t like. If they do like his class, they will eventually find a path to their success. He also likes to watch young students turning into adults knowing they come to school ready with the skills they’ve learned. From what I’ve seen and learned in Mr. Ellison’s class, I want to try his class for next year.
