The purple wing during 4B is dead silent, the perfect testing environment for the students sitting there. They lounge on the purple cushions and chairs, typing away at their computers. At the white table, 3 teachers gather together discussing their lessons over computers and coffee filled water bottles. Their voices are low, as to not disturb the students and to avoid any eavesdroppers. A crackle from one of the teachers’ radios causes them to pause, listening in case it concerns them. The voice from the other side cuts through, crackling and breaking out but the message to look for someone wearing a gray hoodie is heard. Instantly the students’ heads shoot up, glancing around with blatant curiosity. What could be going on? A missing person case happening right in our school? They turn slightly to make eye contact with each other, exchanging a silent message. Their eyes sparkling with interest and excitement. The substitute teacher is still unaware, content with working away on their own computer. Other staff respond to the message over their own radio’s, heading towards the commons to locate this missing person. The teachers return back to their conversations, undisturbed by the interruption. However, the students are still curious. One of them makes pointed eye contact with their friend, mouthing out a message when their telepathy fails to work. Unfortunately the sub catches this interaction, and they quickly duck their heads back behind their screens, hastily typing to appear as if they are working. Everyone settles back, focusing on their work, about to forget about the whole mystery. But the crackle of the radio comes on again, rekindling their interest. “[The student] was found in the commons hallway, all clear.” Slight disappointment shows on their faces, as they had hoped for more drama. Upset that the mystery has already been solved, they sulkily resume their neglected test.
