This year the KoiBots team decided to attend three off-season competitions, one of them being BunnyBots. BunnyBots is an annual, unofficial, offseason event with a unique game that is redesigned each year. It was hosted at Montgomery Blair High School by a neighboring team #449 The Blair Robot Project. It was smaller than an official competition with only about 14 different teams attending. This competition was for the underclassman of the team to practice leading and building a robot entirely on their own. As it was historically a low-stakes event, it provided the perfect opportunity to let the underclassman take the lead. Since the game was new, students were able to design and build an entirely new robot.
Students arrived at 9 am to set up the spot and start checking the robot. Each alliance, red and blue, was composed of two teams. The two teams work together, scoring points and defending against the other alliance. There were 19 qualification matches with a lunch break in the middle. The KoiBots persisted through mechanical issues and performed well during the qualifiers. They were selected by #686 Bovine Intervention and made it to the finals, ending the competition in second place.
The students showed great enthusiasm cheering for both their team and others. They also showed great spirit, dancing along to the macarena, YMCA, and forming a conga line with the other teams. Some of the upperclassman members also volunteered at the event. They were working on announcing, queuing and helping to make sure the competition went as smoothly as possible. This event was a great opportunity for the team and showed the growth and progress of the underclassman. Anna Litwiller, one of the co-captains of the team, stated that she was so incredibly proud.
