December is in full swing and winter is coming just around the corner (even if the weather is jumping between hot and cold weather every other week). To get you in the mood for winter— and maybe some snow too— here are some winter-themed books to enjoy this month!
This month’s fiction book is The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. This classic book follows four siblings into a magical land cursed in eternal winter. However, the guardian of this land, The Great Lion, promises hope to defeat the evil White Witch. Though this book is the second in the The Chronicles of Narnia series, it is a standalone book, but it’s up to you to read the full story or just this book!
This month’s nonfiction book is The Palace of the Snow Queen: Winter Travels in Lapland and Sápmi by Barbara Sjoholm. Sjoholm is an explorer who enjoyed visiting Nordic countries in the summer months, then visited one winter during a period called the dark time, or mørketid. She recaps her journey that took place over three years, exploring different cultures, events, and locations throughout Norway, Finland, and more of Northern Europe.
Happy December and happy reading!
