Emely Fuentes came to Arlington Tech because her mother believed it to be a good opportunity to meet new people and to have a better future. Emely’s English teacher, Mrs. Monnma, encouraged her to come to the Career Center. Her English teacher knew that Emely enjoyed animals and had many pets. Her deep interest in animal science eventually led her to choose this school.
Emely’s experiences have made her strong. She has even cared for many aggressive pets. Her wildest job was caring for her sister’s cat. She described how her cat would be nice to her sister but aggressive to anyone else. She would drop candles and even break her mother’s vase. She would hiss and scratch, and she wouldn’t eat if people were in the room.
Emely used to live in a small apartment with an even smaller bedroom shared with six people, including three siblings. She had a variety of small pets like hamsters, fish, crabs, and more. One of her most meaningful memories is how her hamster Dilion died. She vividly remembers the day she came back home from school and saw her hamster in her mother’s arms, and she remembers crying with her two sisters for weeks.
These experiences have changed Emely into being a better, more hardworking person to achieve her dream.
