Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragedy that’s been dissected time and time again by poets, linguists, and even high school students.
The artist, Taam, chose to depict the main protagonists in a tender dance, lacking their nose and eyes. These features symbolize the blindness of love and the silenced voices of the two lovers. Originally, the artist was going to depict them being struck with Cupid’s arrow, but she felt that would be an awkward pose to draw. This drawing was made for Henry Hines’ class.
