The end of October is Halloween, and in the spirit of spooky month, this month’s Book Nook is Halloween themed. Enjoy a good scare after trick or treating, but maybe don’t read these stories in the dark…
This month’s fiction book is called The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. The story follows a boy named Bod (short for Nobody) whose parents were killed when he was a baby. He grows up in a graveyard, raised and educated by ghosts. As he grows up and learns more about the world he lives in, he is told he can never leave the graveyard for the land of the living. Dangers exist outside of the graveyard, including the man that killed his parents, who is still on the hunt for him.
This month’s nonfiction book is called Ghostland by Colin Dickey. Dickey explores ghost stories from U.S. history in areas all around the country. These stories aren’t just about supernatural activity, though; Dickey also analyzes how these stories came to be and what psychological factors may have led to these stories becoming as famous as they are. If you love history, psychology, or a good scare, this book is a great option for Halloween.
Happy reading and happy Halloween!
