Emory Loughry’s compassionate character is one of her most defining qualities, and she lets it shine in the many aspects of her life. As a part of Wakefield’s rowing team, an experience that she recounts as “one of the most impactful parts” is how the sport has boosted her drive to be better for her team and continue to chase improvement, not just for herself. This selfless mentality has gotten her through challenges she faced throughout her high school career, and will definitely shape her bright future.
Another aspect of rowing that Loughry emphasizes is the necessary balance in her life because of the time and commitment of the sport. Rowing requires a connection and amount of trust beyond just being on a team, and she excels at forming those connections. The friendships and strong bonds she’s formed with her teammates definitely helps with the stress that comes with the sport, but she says that being this busy has made her put more emphasis on self-care and “getting the best out of [her]self.”
Loughry has enjoyed her time at the Chronicle and is excited to continue contributing to the publication now, and maybe work at a newspaper in the future!
Overall, Emory’s strong values and care for those around her has positively shaped her high school career inside and outside of the classroom.
