Alice Cheng is a freshman enrolled in Arlington Tech who dreams of majoring in business and becoming an accountant. Her goals are driven by ambition and practicality, as she’s determined to pursue a financially stable future and career. Despite her commitment to her aspirations, Cheng understands the importance of balance. When faced with doubts about herself, her grades, or the decisions she’s made, she lets herself take a step back to relax and recharge.
While her academic goals and career are important to her, Cheng recognizes that her mental and emotional health is just as crucial to her well-being. She doesn’t linger on negative thoughts thanks to her support system and optimistic outlook in life. In addition to her ambitions, she has an interest in cooking and excels in Chinese. When asked about other career options, Cheng stated that “If money wasn’t involved, I would’ve definitely become some sort of chef.” Cheng also used to play the violin, but had stopped since she “was really bad at it,” she recalls. Cheng’s sister, Shangwen, also enrolled in Arlington Tech as a senior.
“It’s a good place. The staff are very friendly and so are the students. There’s so many classes — so many opportunities to do what you really want to.” Cheng states, “Think carefully about what you really want.”
