The AAPI club is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the diverse cultures of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The goal is to create a space where students can learn from and celebrate each other, and build a community that supports and empowers AAPI and allied students.
Coinciding with Diversity Chat, one of the main activities for the AAPI club is to begin conversations between each member. Led by Lamia Tarannum, questions begin with focusing on aspects of culture and identity, as well as how we can better understand each other to dismantle stereotypes and barriers beyond.
“I kind of just wanted to create a community with Asian students that come to Arlington Tech and ACC in general. Then we just ended up broadening it to everyone who wants to join and learn more about AAPI,” explained Lamia, a junior at ACC who created the club during her sophomore year.
AAPI is one of the many clubs that offers a place for many isolated groups of students to work and collaborate with one another to spread awareness and celebrate their community amongst ACC, open to everyone to participate through all grade levels and programs.
AAPI meets every Thursday throughout all lunches in Ms. Monica’s room.
